Humanitarianism is kindness, benevolence, and sympathy extended universally and impartially to all human beings. Humanitarianism includes those organized actions intended to alleviate suffering and protect victims of natural and human-caused disasters. It assists non-combatants in armed conflict, such as wounded or displaced civilians. Humanitarian actions are initiated by both government and non-government organizations, which must impartially distribute assistance to victims regardless of gender, sexual orientation, tribe, caste, age, religion, ability, political affiliation, or nationality.
Under international humanitarian law, humanitarian actions may not be exploited, obstructed, or interfered with by recipient nations.
