Harmony is the cooperation of two or more elements of a system. It’s a creative synthesis of reconciled opposites. When speech and actions are congruent with thoughts and feelings, you are experiencing inner harmony. The harmony of two musical notes is a pleasure to hear. The harmony of instruments in a classical performance is an emotionally powerful experience. Life in a forest reflects a harmony of diversity, complexity, collaboration, and subtle checks and balances. Randomness, chance, chaos, and harmony are merely human perceptions. They are determined by natural causes, not the unseen hand of a deity.
Despite religious extremism, humankind is becoming more ‘civilized’—violence is declining in our world today. You can advance this trend. You can promote mutual respect, cooperation, and harmony, not hostility. You can promote the rule of law and democratic processes in government, not hubris or ego. You can promote stable relationships and free societies which encourage the sharing of resources, opportunity, power, and influence. You can discover and remedy the root causes of a conflict. You can help people grow toward their potential and live in harmony. Any moderating, effective action is valuable.
