Highly functioning people possess both humility and fierce resolve. They are leaders who possess self-awareness, openness, flexibility, and deep respect for human values. They are a blend of assertiveness and humility—a creative synthesis of opposites in harmony. Their disposition to be humble includes self-restraint from excessive vanity, hubris, and narcissism. The best leaders seek no recognition or reward, but remain unseen in the background while their subtle influence guides progress toward goals.
Humility needs no higher power. How can one be somehow ‘lower’ than a vague supernatural concept, and why must one submit to it? One need only be rational, respectful of others, ethical, compassionate, and charitable.
Use humility, tolerance, understanding, kindness, empathy, generosity, and compassion to defeat arrogance, intolerance, misunderstanding, anger, and hate.
