The Greek term Humanitas honored a fine balance of contemplation and action. The term implied such notions of humanity as understanding, compassion, judgment, and prudence. Prudence is your foresight in anticipating the possible consequences of your actions, and the exercise of discretion in your behavior.
If you are able to foresee what is virtuous, suitable, or profitable, your actions will avoid embarrassment or distress.
